Kapooka Licensed Post Office provides the majority of Australia Post products and Services.
Being an in-conjunction business Milpo Kapooka also stocks a wide range of products including giftware and souvenirs, through to a multitude of items required by the recruits during their training.
Kapooka Army Base is known as the Home of the Soldier, providing a 90 day basic training program for Every person who enlists the Australian Army.
Army reservists also participate in a five week training course at Kapooka.
On average between 4000 and 5000 recruits train at the base each year.
Along with the recruits there are approximately 500 regular army personnel stationed at the base, along with Government employees and contractors.
There are also 51 Defence Force homes adjacent to the base (known as “The Patch”), which house army personnel and their families.
Milpo Kapooka is basically a one person operation.
With the exception of Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, only one person is required to operate the business.
The business is run by the licensee and his wife, plus a casual/sub-contractor who works approximately 20 hours per week.
There are two other shops on base. The Soldiers Shop which is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am until 3pm. It sells similar souvenir items to us. The other business Frontline is mainly a cafeteria, but does stock a number of grocery type items that we also carry.
