About The Franchise
Founders Gary and Diane Heavin, committed veterans of the fitness industry, are considered the innovators of the express fitness phenomenon that has made exercise available to millions of women worldwide. They share a passion for and commitment to helping women achieve their weight loss and health dreams.
The Heavin’s opened the first Curves in 1992 in Harlingen, Texas. Their innovative, 30-minute fitness concept combined strength training and sustained cardiovascular activity through safe and effective hydraulic resistance. The club was an overnight success, as it gave women a supportive and comfortable atmosphere in which to work out.
When their second club was also immediately successful, the Heavin’s knew Curves had the power to help millions of women worldwide to lose weight and get fit. Since then, Curves has caught on like wildfire globally. Today, Curves has thousands of clubs in over 70 countries serving millions of members.
In September,2012 North Castle Partners made a significant investment in Curves International Inc. North Castle is a leading private equity firm focussed exclusively on health, wellness and active living companies.

Reason For Sale
How I came to Curves.
I am now 57 and looking to retire. Curves saved my life.
I was 42 and sick. I knew I needed help to make changes but I wasn’t ready to give up socialising, getting well through fitness was my solution. I walked into my local Curves and said, “I need help”, the response “you’ve come to the right place”. She was right.
I had joined other gyms but this was different: the staff knew my name and a bit about me, I found this refreshing. The circuit was great: no waiting for a machine or watching yourself in a mirror doing bicep curls (what do I do for triceps?) and no trainer to ask without a price tag.
I had been contemplating a new career; I always wanted to work close to home. I was on the circuit one afternoon; the owner announced she was selling her club. This interested me as I had been considering buying an existing business and had been searching for opportunities. Until then, I had never considered a franchise.
Doing my due diligence, this was not the club for me, but I checked the Curves website to see if there was another for sale, Morisset was and I purchased the club in 2011.
