The business was first registered in 2004 and quickly outgrew its first two headquarters, as its reputation and client base steadily increased. The vendor purpose-built the current factory/warehouse in Clayton of approx. 200 square meters plus parking. It comprises a 70 square meter fully fitted out commercial kitchen, 70 square meter equipment store room, plus a 70 square meter mezzanine office for management and administration. The kitchen includes all the required refrigeration and cooking equipment, plus an extensive list of catering equipment. The vendor currently uses 4 vehicles for transport and is willing to sell these as well if the purchaser requires any/all of them. The headquarters are located within a secure commercial complex with on-site parking.
The Business employs 12 part-time catering staff, and 1 part-time administration / receptionists. It maintains enough equipment to handle catering bookings to serve up to around 2000 people a full catering service on any given day. There is also potential to expand menus and services.
Generally, food production is completed in-house in the commercial kitchen, and then transported by catering staff to the customer's venue where a buffet/banquet style service is set up and the food service is completed quickly and easily. The experienced catering staff are able to service all functions without supervision, and the vendor is not required to work at functions too. The vendor currently chooses to work only 20-30 hours per week, and maintains a net profit margin of around 25%. The purchaser has the potential to immediately increase net profit by simply working full time hours.
Unlike a café/restaurant, bookings are made well in advance (usually weeks or months in advance) so stock is freshly ordered with no excess or waste, and staff are rostered with no down time. Processes are in place so that every customer pays in full prior to their food service commencing so the company never has any debtors. With advance bookings there can be up to $150,000 worth of secured bookings in the system for future work.
The sale also includes intellectual property including Registered Trademarks and websites for the current business, plus other names on hold and ready for the purchaser, should the purchaser wish to use a more generic business name down the track. The current company website has SEO refinement generating an average of 2180 sessions per month, with 65% of those from generic unpaid acquisitions, and only 35% pay-per-click. The site has its own on-line booking form for customers and with a "virtual office" used when the office is unattended every lead is recorded electronically for ease of follow up. In-house job sheets are automated to populate catering checklists, transport logistics and staff roster timing; and kitchen lists are automated to populate stock requirements from all suppliers. The current owner has prepared the company to enable a new owner to easily take over.
